Eat Smart, Live Strong: Nutrition Education for Older Adults is designed to improve fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity among 60-74 year olds participating in or eligible for FNS nutrition assistance programs. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) developed the intervention to help program providers and communities improve the health of a growing number of low-income older adults. The intervention is based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid as well as a review of promising practices.

The Eat Smart, Live Strong Activity Kit promotes 2 key behaviors: increase fruit and vegetable consumption to 3 1/2 cups per day and participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week. The Activity Kit includes a leader's guide and four sessions designed to reinforce these behaviors. SNAP education providers can order the Activity Kit from the SNAP Outreach and Nutrition Education Materials Ordering Page. Others are welcome to download the materials.

See the Project Overview for more information about development of the intervention and conducting demonstration projects.
