Reviewers Comments: This 20-minute DVD explains 2010 Dietary Guidelines, MyPlate, and key nutrition messages including, “Make at least half your grains whole”, “Vary your veggies”, “Focus on fruits”, “Get your calcium-rich foods” and “Go lean with protein”. There are no recipes included, as cooking is not discussed much. The Nutrition Facts Panel is used several times to show people where to look for specific information (e.g. saturated and trans fat). All types of fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, dairy and oils are discussed. The DVD does include some statements about “moderation” that should be clarified with the audience. For example, they say when eating popcorn one should “go easy on the butter and salt”. It would be helpful to discuss examples of “moderation” and “going easy” during a class. A handout is available online and could be used to assess participant’s nutrition knowledge. It is unnecessary to have a background in nutrition to use this DVD as part of a nutrition education program. This DVD could be used in a variety of settings including, schools, community centers and hospitals.
