Reviewers Comments:

This online slide show can be used to reinforce food safety guidelines over the summer months. A nine question online quiz reviews safe internal cooking temperatures, cross contamination, perishable foods, hand washing, and more. It is a wonderful review of a variety of summer food safety topics. It is recommended that this resource is used with an instructor with a background in food safety, and not as a stand alone tool. Instructors should be familiar with the current food safety guidelines. While basic food safety facts are given, this resource would be most effective when accompanied by an explanation and discussion of the questions. The resource may be used by itself only if it is used as a review or evaluation piece, following a more comprehensive food safety lesson. It can also be used as a quick introductory activity or a fun interactive game.

This resource includes great visuals, including vivid photos of real food. The interactive nature of the presentation keeps it fresh and stimulating. It would be best used with adults in an informal group setting, such as in a small classroom or group meeting, but it could also be adapted to work in larger lectures or even in a one on one setting. The length of the presentation will vary depending on the amount of discussion included.

These slides can be viewed online or downloaded using PowerPoint or SlideShare. While it is not necessary to have extensive experience presenting slides to use this resource, it would be helpful to have a basic background by practicing with the slides before presenting them. Using a projection screen is optimal, but not necessary. The slide show may be embedded into your own blog or Web page.
