| The website contains six slideshows and tip sheets on healthy eating and physical activity. They are a part of Maine's Healthy Weight Awareness Campaign (HWAC) social marketing program. The campaign is a partnership between the Maine CDC and the Maine Nutrition Network and is funded by the by the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The campaign provides low-income Maine families with information to take simple steps to help children and families eat healthfully and be active.
The slides were developed for use in digital photo receivers (DPRs) that are displayed in healthcare offices, but can also be used in digital photo frames. They can also simply be viewed from the website.
The six slide sets are:
- Start Your Day With Breakfast
- What is a Whole Grain?
- Eat More Fruits & Vegetables
- Aim for 3-A-Day of Milk & Dairy Foods
- Making the Most of Your Food Dollar
- Be Active!
The target audience is low-income adults. The slides were created using focus groups, surveys, and other information-gathering sessions with the target audience. There are 10-15 slides per set. The slides are very easy to understand and include quizzes to keep the viewer engaged.
Each slide set also includes a tip sheet. The tip sheets are a summary of the slides that can be printed and taken home by the SNAP recipients.
Even thought the slides are free, in order to use them appropriately, a DPR or other photo displaying device would have to be purchased.
