|Reviewers Comments: ||“Food Safety: What You Don’t Know CAN Hurt You!” is a great concise review of important food safety facts. The resource can be used along with a broader lesson on food safety or by itself. Because widespread food safety myths are discredited, this resource is likely to be eye-opening for most people.
This resource covers a number of food safety topics including safe internal cooking temperatures (from USDA guidelines) and how to take the temperature of a food, the four FSIS food safety messages of Clean, Separate Cook, Chill, and recommendations from the food safety chapter in the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Identical information is included in each of the three available materials: a downloadable Power Point presentation, online slideshow, and a four page black and white handout. The slideshow and presentation are colorful, include various sounds and cartoon graphics, and have an interactive element with questions and answers throughout. The handout also contains a few graphics and a clever layout which add to its appeal.
