| Reviewers Comments: | This is a set of newsletters designed for pregnant teens or teenage parents. The newsletters are designed to support the Teen Parents curriculum, available from the University of Missouri extension program. They are written and designed especially for adolescents, using youthful fonts, engaging cartoons and illustrations, and easy to understand language. Some graphs and charts are used to explain more advanced topics.
There are ten issues of this two color newsletter, and each issue varies in size, structure and content. They range from two to eight pages long, with 40 pages total for the complete package. Many of the newsletters feature worksheets and activities, making them interactive learning tools. While they can be used by themselves, they would have the most impact when gone over as part of a full lesson. Newsletters are not sequential, and can be used individually or as part of a series. Eliminating one or several of the newsletters in a class series should not have a significant impact on the series as a whole (besides the exclusion of the individual topic). Newsletter topics include weight gain, nutrient needs, dealing with physical discomforts, avoiding cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol, healthy alternatives to fast food, breastfeeding vs. bottle-feeding, feeding infants and toddlers, unit pricing and food safety issues during pregnancy and post pregnancy.
